RENEWING A MASTERPIECE
In 2019, Verve Concepts received an extraordinary commission from a private client working with architectural firm, Crane Associates: the complete restoration of heritage-listed property, Longwall, originally designed by architect, Leslie Gooday OBE in the 1960’s. The property is noted for the sensitive use of contrasting materials in its construction, including a copper roof, paved courtyards, birch wood, brick and cast concrete, creating an impressive juxtaposition with the natural woodland setting of St. George’s Hill, Surrey.
Closely working with the client and English heritage team, the first 12 months have focused on restoring the structural integrity of the building and functional modernisation, while sympathetically maintaining the original unique character and aesthetic of Longwall.
Highlights of this include a new copper roof, applying the original techniques and finishes across; a full new electrical installation, under floor heating, replacement of all the windows and new audio-visual technologies to increase energy performance throughout the family home. Brickwork was hand-selected and repointed to the original standards for a new extension and conversion of the garage into an additional guest bedroom and en-suite.
The project is due for completion in Autumn 2020 when we will be sharing more highlights and photography of the interiors soon.
